These Japanese wooden boxes are hand carved out of Japanese cherry birch using the traditional "Kashokubuki" technique that creates the decorative pattern. This box is originally designed as a tea caddy but also works as a storage for small objects or jewellery. The organic shape and natural wood colour makes it a perfect fit in any interior and as the boxes are hand carved each piece is unique. Founded by Komakichi Gato in 1908, Gato Mikio is a family woodworking house with over 100 years of history. The atelier is based in Yamanaka, a heartland of arts and crafts, and one of Japan’s most renowned woodwork and lacquerware regions.
